Why I Opened Twisted Herd Mercantile

Why I Opened Twisted Herd Mercantile

If you've ever stopped by the store, you probably know that Twisted Herd Mercantile is more than just a boutique to me.

It's a dream that started with a simple frustration—but it also grew out of a season of life that changed me forever.

Living in a small town, I often felt like finding clothing that reflected my style meant driving hours away or settling for whatever happened to be available nearby. I knew there had to be other women feeling the same way.

Women who wanted stylish clothing without having to leave their community.

Women who wanted to feel confident whether they were headed to work, church, the ball field, or dinner with friends.

Women who wanted something a little different.

But there was another reason I felt called to start this journey.

In October 2021, my father passed away unexpectedly. Like anyone who has experienced such a heavy loss, I found myself searching for a way to move forward. During that difficult season, I realized I needed something positive to pour my energy into—something that would challenge me, inspire me, and help me focus on building something meaningful.

Twisted Herd became part of that healing journey.

What started as an idea for a boutique quickly became a source of purpose, creativity, and connection. It gave me something to dream about again, and it reminded me that even in life's hardest seasons, new beginnings can grow from unexpected places.

So, I decided to give it a try.

When I opened Twisted Herd, I wasn't just opening a store. I was creating the kind of place I wished existed when I was shopping.

A place where every woman feels welcome.

A place where you don't have to fit a certain mold to find something beautiful.

A place where customers become friends.

The funny thing is, Twisted Herd didn't start with a storefront at all. It began as a small pop-up shop. I wasn't sure exactly where the journey would lead, but I knew I wanted to bring something special to our community.

Before long, the business had completely taken over my home office. Inventory was stacked everywhere, orders were coming in, and what started as a side venture was quickly becoming something much bigger than I ever imagined.

That's when I found a space on Main Street.

Having a storefront felt like a huge milestone, and I was excited to finally have a place where customers could come shop in person. But the growth didn't stop there. Thanks to the incredible support of our customers and community, we quickly outgrew that location too.

Today, Twisted Herd Mercantile is proudly and prominently positioned in Tightsqueeze, and every time I unlock the doors, I'm reminded of how far this journey has come—from a pop-up shop, to my home office, to Main Street, and now to the space we call home today.

Over the years, the store has evolved just like I have. What started as a western-inspired boutique has grown into a Southern lifestyle brand that reflects the people and community we serve.

There have been long days, late nights, moments of uncertainty, and plenty of lessons learned along the way. But there have also been incredible blessings, amazing customers, and friendships I never expected.

Looking back, I can see how God used both the joyful moments and the difficult ones to guide me here. Twisted Herd is a business, but it's also a reminder that hope, purpose, and community can carry us through more than we ever imagined.

Every purchase, every kind word, and every customer who chooses to shop local has helped make this dream possible.

And for that, I'm grateful.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me.

We're just getting started.

With Love, Heather
